Sailing the West Coast
West Coast sailors can sail from British Columbia, Canada to Baja California, Mexico or sail to Hawaii, in fact, some sailors would rather race to those destinations than relax with the wind. Actually, British Colombia, particularly, around Vancouver Island, is a fabulous place to sail as is the western coast of Mexico.
Sailors starting a sailing adventure along the Washington coast can weave between the San Juan Islands and along the Cascade Peninsula. From Washington, sailors can go to Oregon and stop at the Columbia River Gorge for a little windsurfing before exploring the coastal communities along the Oregon coast. The California coastline is perfect for sailors and provides varieties of coastal towns from the quaint towns to major metropolitan areas like San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. California also has sailing-destination islands, Catalina and Coronado. While sailing along the Pacific Ocean coastline sailors also can whale watch.
After a sailing adventure, sailors and their crews can stop in San Diego to stretch their sea legs and enjoy visiting the zoo, or golfing at one of the area famous courses like Torrey Pines, relaxing at a fabulous resort hotel (see Hotel Del Coronado), and enjoying a spa.
